I am Alexandros Mesaris and I am originally from Athens in Greece. I am a Biologist and I hold a M.Sc. in Applications of Biology to Medicine, from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in Greece. The aim of my project (ESR8, Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Tassula Proikas-Cezanne) is to understand the regulation of the PI3P-effector function of the human PROPPINs, called WIPI (WIPI1-4) in the process of autophagy. In particular, I am interested in both autophagy and non-autophagy function of human WIPI1. I wish to discover the signalling pathways that control WIPI1 function in healthy human cells, as well as in tumour cells, and to contribute to further understand the role of WIPI-mediated autophagy in health and disease.
